LIFE Russia is a unique mix of Europe and Asia. That said, Moscow is an old city and resembles many European capitals with one exciting exception: Moscow doesn’t close. There’s something to do 24/7. You can even go shopping at 3am if you want. The language can be a challenge but don’t let the alphabet scare you; Cyrillic is easy to learn.
SHOPPING Like most big cities, Moscow has everything you need for a comfortable life, including specialty foods from your home country for when you’re feeling homesick.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Moscow is full of transportation options: metro, bus, and tram. You can buy your tickets in advance at a metro station and some kiosks next to bus stops. You can buy tickets for trips or get a troika card which you can recharge.
TELECOMMUNICATION Stick with MTS, BeeLine, or Megafon for your mobile. They’re the big three nationwide mobile companies. Meaning you won’t get stuck with a huge bill for calling a friend in another city. 3G is available in Moscow but you may run into trouble trying to use it outside of the city.
WEATHER AND CLIMATE Moscow is warmer than you think! Summer temperatures are around 24*C, but can be higher. The winters do get down to -10*C though. Pack your sweaters, but don’t expect to need them in the summer.
