Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic after Prague and is the historical capital city of Moravia. This beautiful city is steeped in history; its traditional styled buildings and amazing architecture will blow you away. Dominating Brno’s skyline is the 13th century Spilberk Castle located on the hilltop of the city. It has been gradually converted into a baroque fortress and then into a barracks. Another dominant historical feature of the city is the intriguingly gothic style Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul situated on Petrov hill in Brno centre. Brno has a population of nearly 400,000 and is located 210 km from Prague; in the South East of the country.

Although a relaxed and historical city, Brno is a vibrant and youthful university town where most inhabitants can speak or partly speak English.
Brno has a modern and pleasant climate that necessitates a comfortable lifestyle (average summer temperature 22°C, average winter temperature 1°C ). Brno city has not been affected by tourism to any extent of that seen in Prague so thankfully it is much cheaper and because everything is tightly knit, there is no need for taxis! You could spend a weekend in Brno enjoying good meals, bars, clubs and sites for less than £70! Typical Czech cuisine can be sampled in many restaurants including a popular Czech dish of roast pork with dumplings and cabbage or fried cheese with potatoes or chips. Scrumptious! Lots of restaurants offer food and a drink for just Kč6 and a traditional Starobrno beer can be purchased for just Kč1 even in the city center!
